SHE is used to teaching children but Kath Mead found herself teaching a class of mum and dads for a television documentary.

Starring alongside the 19 parents, grandparents and carers in Class of Mum and Dad which airs tomorrow (April 10), is Blackrod Primary School's Year Six teacher and deputy headteacher.

She said: "Taking part in the experience was amazing, challenging and entertaining.

"Watching the class bond and morph into a ‘real class’ was brilliant.

"They loved being part of Blackrod Primary School and got to experience first-hand what Primary education is really like; and I was proud of that. They faced various challenges along the way and everybody gained something from it, it was the most unusual teaching experience but one that I’m glad I was part of."

Filming for the new series took place over half the summer term at the outstanding school — with adults abiding by school rules and being told what do.

During the programme there are many disagreements among the parents on the merits of testing and homework, how much art and music should be part of the curriculum, and many of the parents push the boundaries on the school rules and regimes.

Mrs Mead said: "I hope that viewers will gain a real insight into primary education, that they will see the warmth, energy and enjoyment come across. I hope they will warm to and relate to the class members and enjoy watching them on their very unusual journey."

Class of Mum and Dad is on Channel 4 on Tuesdays at 8pm.
