BY Burnley's recent standards the number of players away on international duty this week is relatively low.

A total of seven Clarets are away on senior international duty with friendlies taking place all over the world.

But Tom Heaton, Stephen Ward and Chris Wood are absent for England, the Republic of Ireland and New Zealand respectively having only recently got over injuries, while long-term injury has ruled out Robbie Brady, Jonathan Walters and Steven Defour.

Nick Pope and James Tarkowski (England)

Pope and Tarkowski will be hoping to make their Three Lions debuts this month after being called-up for the first time last week.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Pope is one of four goalkeepers in Gareth Southgate's squad and he will compete with Jack Butland, Jordan Pickford and Joe Hart for minutes, while Tarkowski's chances may be improved if the England boss opts to use three central defenders again.

England are in action against Holland in Amsterdam on Friday night (7.45pm), before returning to Wembley to face Italy next Tuesday (8pm).

Kevin Long and Jeff Hendrick (Republic of Ireland)

Burnley have previously had as many as five players in the Republic of Ireland squad, but on this occasion only centre back Long and central midfielder Hendrick are in Martin O'Neill's 25-man squad.

Injury has kept Brady and Walters out this time, while Ward will have to wait to win his 50th cap with O'Neill leaving him out with the left-back only recently returning from a lay-off of his own.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Ireland face Turkey in Antalya on Friday (5.30pm) with Long looking to win his fifth cap and Hendrick his 38th.

Sam Vokes (Wales)

Vokes will be earning the air miles during this international break with Wales competing in the China Cup in Nanning.

Having failed to qualify for the World Cup this summer Wales begin life under Ryan Giggs in the four team tournament, which includes the hosts, Uruguay and the Czech Republic.

Wales are in action against China on Thursday (11.35am) and will then play in either the final or the third/fourth place play-off against one of the other sides on Monday.

Scott Arfield (Canada)

It looked like two Clarets would go head-to-head during this international break, but while Arfield has shaken off a calf problem to take his place in the Canada squad, Wood has been given the international break off by New Zealand.

Arfield has joined up with the Canucks for a training camp in Murcia this week which includes a friendly with New Zealand at the Pinatar Arena on Saturday (3pm).

Johann Berg Gudmundsson (Iceland)

Excitement levels are at fever pitch in Iceland as the country prepares to play in its first ever World Cup this summer.

The Burnley winger played a key role in Iceland's qualification and he will be looking to add to his 63 caps when Heimir Hallgrímsson's side play two friendlies in the United States this month.

Iceland face Mexico on Saturday (2.30am) at Levi's Stadium, California, and then Peru on Wednesday, March 28 (1am) in New York.
