HERE is the moment when a driver had a near-miss overtaking vehicles and avoiding an oncoming car close to an Altham primary school.

This dashcam footage was taken on Burnley Road between Clayton-le-Moors and Altham at 8.46am on Friday morning.

The driver who shot the footage, wanted to remain anonymous, said: "I was taking my kids to Altham St James School.

"It was only when the car was alongside me that I realised (what was happening).

"I didn't have any chance to brake and due to me already doing the speed limit didn't expect it to happen.

"The speed limit is 40mph on that stretch but I was at 39mph when it happened.

"I can't explain their actions but they must have been in a hell of a rush.

"They thankfully slowed down past the school. People who drive like this will cause an accident.

"If they carry on driving like this they will cause serious injury to someone. It's only a matter of time."

Meanwhile, Cllr Miles Parkinson, who represents the Altham ward, said: "It is appalling. There have been numerous serious accidents on that road and with the council liaison we have put signs up warning about the dangers.

"It is a narrow road, unfortunately when people get out of urban areas they think they can put their foot down and race away and then they slam on.

"I think it is totally irresponsible driving but what would happen to the law obiding motorists who could be hurt.

"It is the stupidity of someone for the sake of a few seconds."
