GARETH Southgate will name his England squad for friendlies with Holland and Italy on Thursday, with a number of Burnley players pushing for a call-up.

But how many Clarets will be in the Three Lions squad? We assess the chances of Burnley's England hopefuls.

NICK POPE

England's number one? That was the opinion of Matt Lowton on Saturday as Pope kept his 10th clean sheet in 26 Premier League starts.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a staggering rise this term, having never played a Premier League minute until replacing the injured Tom Heaton in the Turf Moor win over Crystal Palace.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Easily the most in-form of English goalkeepers at the moment, but the suggestion at the weekend was that Norwich City's Angus Gunn, on loan from Manchester City, might get the nod instead, with Southgate likely to include Joe Hart, Jack Butland and Jordan Pickford. That would be incredibly harsh on Pope.

Call-up chances: 4/5

MATT LOWTON

The most unlikely of Burnley's English contingent to get a call-up, but he must have impressed Southgate with a fine performance in the win against Everton recently.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Lowton is still dreaming of that England call, but as he admits competition at right-back is fierce, with Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier likely to be the two included in the World Cup squad.

Call-up chances: 1/5

JAMES TARKOWSKI

Like Pope, if you'd told Tarkowski at the start of this season that he would be in the frame for an England call he almost certainly wouldn't have believed it.

Has more than filled Michael Keane's shoes and was rewarded for his own form with a new contract at Burnley earlier this season.

The battle for central defensive positions in the England squad is wide open and Southgate may be keen for a closer look at Tarkowski, while also securing his international allegiance to England rather than Poland.

Call-up chances: 4/5

Lancashire Telegraph:

BEN MEE

With Southgate likely to play three central defenders the fight for the five or six places on the plane is a competitive one, with probably only the name of John Stones written in ink.

Could Mee force his way in? Stranger things have happened. His former teammate Keane spoke glowingly of Mee in these pages a couple of weeks ago and admitted he'd be 'over the moon' if he got the call.

But Mee's unfussy, uncomplicated defensive style sees him regularly fly under the radar, and it would be a surprise if that changed now.

Call-up chances: 2/5

JACK CORK

The one member of the Burnley squad to have been in Southgate's last squad, making his international debut in the friendly with Germany at Wembley in November.

Cork was a late call-up on that occasion due to injuries, so has he done enough to force his way into the reckoning this time?

Lancashire Telegraph:

One of only five outfield players to have played every minute of the Premier League season so far. Has returned to form recently, having had a dip from the high standards he was setting in the early weeks of the season.

Call-up chances: 3/5
