FAMILIES are invited to help raise vital funds for the fire service by turning out to charity car washes today (March 10).

Residents are invited to Horwich fire station between 10am and 2pm to have their vehicles washed and scrubbed, or to Farnworth fire station between 10am and 4pm.

Last year, the Horwich crews raised £370 for the rehabilitation of injured firefighters throughout the UK.

Crew manager Jason Martin said: "Visitors drive onto the rear yard, where firefighters will wash their cars and then used the fire engine to rinse off.

"Kids love it and we do too. It's a fun day where we get to meet the people of our station area.

"We only ask for a small donation, whatever you can afford."

Visitors will also be given free information on the Safe and Well visits provided by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, which includes fitting a free smoke alarm.
