FOOD and garden waste collections in Bolton are cancelled today.

The council has delayed the collections in order to catch up with the backlog created by the cold weather.

Beige and burgundy bins will be collected today as normal.

On March 1, Bolton Council suspended all bin collections because of the 'unsafe' conditions created by the icy weather as the Beast from the East and Storm Emma turned the country white.

As a result bins were missed between Tuesday, February 27 and Friday, March 2.

Grey bins missed on Tuesday, February 27 and Wednesday, February 28 were all due to be collected by the end of yesterday.

Remaining missed bins are due to be collected by the end of today.

A council spokesman said: “We would like to thank residents for bearing with us and understanding the difficulties we faced last week due to the snow and ice.

“Last Thursday was a particularly difficult day when we had to suspend collections due to the severe weather.

“We understand food and garden waste collections not taking place tomorrow is not ideal but we want to ensure that all our resources are being used to collect all the missed grey bins.

“We would like to thank residents for their continued patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Collections are due to return to normal next week.
