A FALLEN tree has been left in the middle of the street amid Storm Emma.

Residents on Cutler and Shaw Close, in Blackburn, are struggling to drive in and out of the estate after a tree fell down in the middle of the road following the arrival of Storm Emma early this morning.

Parents have been forced to mount the kerb, around the obstruction, to drop their children off at school while others have stayed in their homes.

Hours after the incident and emergency services have yet to attend the scene.

Shahaan Hussain, who has lived on the estate for nine years and had to drive around the tree to drop her children off to school, said: "This is a freak accident.

"This sort of thing has never happened on the street.

"I came out at 7.30am and saw it just before that.

"They have just been coming up the kerb and struggling to get passed.

"There are parents on this street who have to drive their kids to school.

"We want to get the kids to school and being on a side street is bad when the weather is like this.

"Bins and rubbish are thrown all around.

"The council need to do something about it because we can't deal with it."
