DOORS will soon be reopening at one of Blackburn's biggest nightclubs after the building was taken over.

And organisers say they are applying a strict ‘no riff-raff’ rule ahead of its opening on Easter Weekend.

Dubbed as ‘The North West’s newest and biggest nightclub,’ Switch Blackburn announced it will invest more than £250,000 in the former Liquid and Envy building on St Peter Street, Blackburn.

The venue has said it will offer ‘state-of-the-art’ clubbing, playing a variety of grime, hip hop, R&B, pop and dance music over three floors.

Operations manager for Switch Leisure, Lee Johnson said: “This is a really exciting time to bring our unique club concept to East Lancashire.

“We know what works and what our customers want and need.

“We have a young, fresh and appealing brand that people want to associate with.”

Switch Blackburn, owned by three local entrepreneurs, is the third venue in the chain to come to Lancashire, with clubs already operating in Preston and Poulton-le-Fylde.

They have played host to celebrities and performers such as Fuse ODG, Lethal Bizzle, Bugzy Malone and the Chuckle Brothers. The new outlet in Blackburn promises to bring special guests to the venue on a regular basis.

Welcoming the club's reopening, councillor Phil Riley, executive member for regeneration on Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “There is clearly a growing demand for more nightlife venues in the town and it's important that this demand is looked after – which this club seems to be doing.”

The building has been home to many nightclubs over the years, most recently to Nocturnal, which launched an opening and closed again within months.

Switch has also announced a strict dress-code for the venue, forbidding anyone wearing trainers, tracksuits, man bags and caps from entering the premises.

A leading member of Blackburn’s Night Life Facebook group, James Newton, thanked the owners of Switch for bringing the nightclub to the town.

He said: “This is a fantastic thing. The opening will be a great opportunity for everyone to have a brilliant night on the opening evening and on weekends to come."

The club has announced a celebrity guest will be revealed when 250 confirm attendance on its Facebook page.
