CUSTOMERS were forced to apprehend a man after he threw a bottle and smashed a café window.

Police were called to Halliwell Road at around 12.40pm today and a number of officers attended the scene.

The man entered the Tasty Bites shop at around 12.30pm and was seen swearing and being aggressive.

People were eating lunch in the café when he came in and a group of men had to force him out of the shop.

Once he was outside he threw the glass bottle through the window and he was restrained on the floor until police arrived.

Once officers arrived the man was arrested.

Eyewitnesses reported a heavy police presence on the scene and around seven police vehicles attended.

Officers took statements from a number of witnesses following the incident.

By around 1.30pm most of the officers had left the scene and the road was cleared of police vehicles.

An eyewitness said: “He came in with a beer bottle and was effing and blinding.

“Everyone grabbed hold of him. They restrained him until police came. He was being aggressive.

“He is shouting and hitting the bottle on the table. All of the guys in here, they took him out. We had to get him out.

“There was a couple in here and things like that. The police then came and arrested him.”

Police confirmed they were called to the incident.
