A NUMBER of schools across Bolton are shut today due to weather conditions.

A dozen schools have so far shut

But parents are urged to check with schools for the latest information.

A Bolton Council spokesman said: "In the event of bad weather, each school will have its own procedure for communicating with parents about school closures, and parents are advised to familiarise themselves with that procedure. Schools are encouraged to upload the details of any closure to the council website. If parents are in any doubt, they should contact their school directly."

Schools which are closed are Blackshaw Primary School in Breightmet; Bolton Muslim Girls' School; Bolton St Catherine's Academy, Harwood; Essa Primary School, Great Lever; Firwood School; Harwood; Lever Edge Lane, Great Lever; Masefield Primary School, Little Lever; Red Lane Primary School, Breightmet; Smithills School; St Columba's RC Primary School, Tonge Moor; St Maxentius CE Primary School, Harwood.

Heathfield Primary School is partly shut. Early years for nursery and reception children is closed to frozen pipes and no running water but the school is open for years one to six.
