A MISPLACED diversion sign sending motorway traffic down a quiet residential street in Little Lever has been moved.
Highways England has apologised after motorists diverted off the M60 at Whitefield due to overnight closures were mistakenly sent down Foundry Street and Jessop Forge.
Little Lever councillor Sean Hornby said that the diversion had ‘caused hell’ for residents who had been woken up by lorries coming down their street in middle of the night.
He added: “Lots of people have been badly affected by this, and it has been going on for about a week.”
A spokesman for Highways England said: “We are sorry for any confusion caused to drivers due to the location of the diversion signs in Little Lever for overnight closures on the M60.
“The signs are advising drivers to take the next left onto the A6053 and we have now moved them closer to the junction to make this clearer.”
