ACCRINGTON Stanley are sweating on the fitness of star man Sean McConville ahead of Saturday's League Two home game with Cambridge United.

The midfielder has missed the last three games since picking up an ankle problem against Swindon Town earlier this month.

The 29-year-old had been in fine form prior to his injury, scoring six goals in seven games.

But Stanley have picked up seven points from nine in his absence and head into this weekend third in the table.

McConville is expected to train today and a decision on his fitness will be left until the last possible moment.

In his absence, Callum Johnson, Harvey Rodgers and Erico Sousa have filled the void and Reds boss John Coleman has been pleased with those players who have stepped up to the plate.

He said: "Everyone who has been asked to do a job has done it to the best of their ability. We are going to need that between now and the end of the season.

"We will be very lucky if we can finish the season with the same XI every week. There is twists and turns to be had and players are going to be called upon and it is important that we stay in a bit of rhythm and we find a way to get the job done which we have in the past.

"We weren't at our best against Crewe or for the first half against Barnet but we picked four points up so if we can get back to playing well then we have a better chance of winning the game."
