AT LONG last someone has been jailed for stealing money from care home residents although I still think nine months is a soft sentence.
Reading the story in the Lancashire Telegraph on February 17 about Rebecca Crook from Burnley who stole £380 from residents at Crawshaw Hall Medical Centre and Nursing Home really annoyed me.
Yet again someone in a position of trust had chosen to steal money from vulnerable people in a dementia unit.
On several occasions she had faked transactions, falsified others and even forged signatures of other members of staff.
Her solicitor said she was in a desperate financial situation at the time and in a low mood but that is no excuse, many people struggle financially and others suffer low mood but they don’t resort to stealing.
JAILED: Secretary who stole £380 from dementia care home residents
The fact that she was extremely remorseful for her actions meant the judge gave her a 25 per cent credit thus reducing her sentence from twelve months down to nine months.
This woman and others like her, including carers who look after people in their own homes and care homes, who choose to rob such vulnerable people who have put their trust in them deserve to be locked up for a very long time.
