FIREFIGHTERS are urging people to test their smoke alarms after they failed to go off when a fire broke out in a kitchen.
Crews were called to Morris Green Lane in Morris Green at 7pm on Saturday after food was left unattended on a cooker.
Whilst there they fitted smoke alarms after the ones in the house were found not to be working.
The fire caused smoke logging to the house and damage the cooker and cupboards.
Watch Manager Tony McKenna said: "A mum and her three young children self-escaped and there were no injuries.
"The house did have smoke alarms but there were defective so whilst we were there we fitted new smoke alarms.
"We would urge people to test the smoke alarms regularly."
