THE babies in a Brandlesholme nursery's care are 'uninspired' according to the latest Ofsted inspection.

Aunty Clares nursery has been labelled 'inadequate' by Ofsted, dropping a rank since its last inspection in February this year.

The report, published last week, says: "The quality of teaching and the educational programme is inadequate.

"Too many children, including babies, are uninspired and lack the motivation to learn and explore."

The nursery in Brandlesholme Road was also pulled up for its safeguarding, ineffective systems and its inconsistent approach to managing children's behaviour.

Inspector Stephanie Nixon said in her report: "The provider cannot verify the suitability of staff because recruitment documents are not available.

"This places children at significant risk of harm."

One strength was identified in the report. The nursery was thought to keep parents informed about activities well, building effective relationships.

Despite staff being qualified, the quality of teaching was weak and Ms Nixon called the leadership of the nursery 'inadequate'.

She added that because children's needs and interests are not being met, 'children become restless, and at times disruptive.

"Two-year-olds join in a gluing and sticking activity making Christmas trees, which supports their creative development.

"However, any potential learning is limited as the expectations places on the children are too high."

Ms Nixon also felt 'babies are offered little stimulation and the staff caring for babies do not know their individual needs'.

The Ofsted report highlights problems with the children's safety and emotional well-being, though parents spoke highly of the nursery, some were unsure as to who their child's 'key person' was.

The report also says that babies became distressed when being left in the nursery's care because staff did not know their routines at home and how to comfort them.

Clare Kiely, the nursery owner has been approached for a comment about the report's findings.
