A MOTORCYCLIST is in a critical condition following a collision with a car.

Shortly before 2.30am this morning, Monday, November 27, police were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a motorbike on Walmersley Road.

A black Peugeot Speedfight moped was travelling along Walmersley Road towards Ramsbottom when it was involved in a collision with a stationary car.

The 29-year-old driver of the moped was left with serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The road was closed while officers carried out their investigation and has since been reopened.

Police Constable Neil Pennington of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “My thoughts are with this man and his family, who has been left fighting for his life in hospital after this collision.

“We’re trying to piece together how this incident could have happened and need the public’s help to gather as much information around the bike’s movements as we can.

“If you were travelling on Walmersley Road around the time the collision happened, or have dash-cam footage that could help our investigation, please get in touch with police.”

Residents on the road said their thoughts are with the motorcyclist.
