A GRANDFATHER was punched in the face while pushing a pram through a park in an ‘outrageous assault'.

The 65-year-old was pushing his grandchild through Egerton Park, off Blackburn Road, when he was approached by his assailant’s grey and white Schnauzer.

He asked the dog’s owner to put the animal on a lead but he responded by hit him twice in the face.

The grandparent suffered facial injuries requiring hospital treatment in the attack, which happened at about 3pm on Sunday, November 5.

The attacker is described as white, aged in his 40s or 50s and of medium build with dark hair.

He was wearing a grey hooded coat with jeans and blue trainers.

Police Constable Frazer Todd, of GMP’s Bolton borough, said: “This was an outrageous assault on a man as he walked through Egerton Park.

“He was simply out for a walk with his grandchild before he found himself being assaulted over a dispute about whether the dog should have been on a lead.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this assault or who was in the area at the time and saw something that could assist our investigation to please contact police.”
