POLICE are investigating two incidents at St Mary’s College involving fighting.

They occurred on Wednesday last week and Monday.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested and bailed on suspicion of assault while a student has been suspended from the college.

Interim principal Jenny Singleton said the two incidents were related and concerned with one family.

A Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to reports of attack in St Mary’s College on Shear Brow, Blackburn on Wednesday last week.

“A 20-year-old man from Blackburn was arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed pending further investigations.

“Around 4pm on Monday, police were called to reports of an incident or disorder involving ten people outside the college gates.

“When they arrived, college staff had dispersed the group.

“Both incidents are being investigated.”

Ms Singleton said: “The incident on Monday, best described as a scuffle, related to a previous incident on Wednesday where the was a fight in college.

“The group involved were dispersed by teaching and security staff. The two incidents are related and concern a single family.

“We take any incidents of violence related to our premises very seriously and always call the police.

“The safeguarding of staff and pupils is very important.

She added:”We always take action on such incidents.

“One student has been suspended following Wednesday’s incident.”
