A BURY high school has shown its support for one of its rivals by handing over a cheque worth hundreds of pounds.

Staff and students at Woodhey High School in Ramsbottom have donated £458 to Tottington High School in support of former pupil Olivia Campbell-Hardy, who was killed in the Manchester Arena bomb in May.

Woodhey’s head boy and girl, Hamish Orr and Freya Griffiths, visited Tottington last Monday to present the cheque to their counterparts, Beker Khalid and Sophie Stanford.

In total, the staff and students at Woodhey raised nearly £1000 by selling snacks and face painting at the school’s sports day back in July, as well as money raised at the staff Christmas Concert and inter-house dance being added to the total.

While one half of the total was donated to Tottington, the other will be donated to the We Love MCR Charity, which seeks to support community groups and families in Manchester and the Manchester Memorial Fund.

Money donated to Tottington in Olivia's memory has primarily been used to improve the school's music facilities, of which the music-mad youngster was a regular user.

Memorial stones have also been erected in the school gardens in memory of Olivia and other students who have passed away.

Mr Brian Duffy, headteacher at Tottington, said: "This is a wonderful gesture by the pupils of Woodhey High School.

“Elton High School pupils made a similar contribution before the summer and all our staff, governors and students would like to sincerely thank both school communities.

“The support of all the schools in Bury has been very much appreciated by all."
