THE return of a bus route a bus route in Burnley has been praised by a councillor.

Cllr Charles Briggs, who represents Gannow on Burnley Council, said he was pleased to see Lancashire County Council approve £1million to provide a network of buses across the region.

A petition of more than 550 people had been collected in the area and handed to the county council demanding a bus went through Sycamore Avenue in the town.

The number 64 and 65 services will run through Sycamore Avenue, travelling between Burnley, Rosegrove, Padiham, Fence, Barrowford and Nelson.

Cllr Briggs said: “It’s absolutely tremendous for a bus to return to Sycamore Avenue.

“It’s a big road which needed a bus.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved in the petition as it’s helped bring a bus running through it.

"Cllr Jeff Sumner presented the county council with the petition and there was a lot of great work put in by my fellow Gannow councillors.

"It was vital to get a bus route back into the road, I heard many stories of elderly residents having to walk great distances to their nearest bus stop."
