A BOLTON company has been 'named and shamed' by The Government for failing to pay a member of staff the minimum wage.

More than 200 companies around the UK have been ordered to pay workers money they are owed as part of a government crackdown.

Among them is Nationwide Solution Limited, trading as Nationwide Solutions, which has its registered office address at Union Mill, Vernon Street in Bolton.

The company specialises in getting 16 to 24-year-olds into apprenticeships placements.

The list states that the company failed to pay a worker £454.33 and will now have to repay this.

Companies House states that the company's only director is Mohammad Arshad.

Argos has been ordered to pay £1,461,881.78 to 12,176 workers around the country after it failed to give staff the minimum wage.

Business minister Margot James said: "It is against the law to pay workers less than legal minimum wage rates, short-changing ordinary working people and undercutting honest employers.

"Today’s naming round identifies a record £2 million of back pay for workers and sends the clear message to employers that the government will come down hard on those who break the law."

Errors employers made included deducting money from people's wages to pay for uniforms, failing to account for overtime hours and wrongly paying apprentices rates to workers.

Melissa Tatton, director at HM Revenue and Customs, said: "HMRC is committed to getting money back into the pockets of underpaid workers, and continues to crack down on employers who ignore the law.

"Those not paying workers the National Minimum or Living Wage can expect to face the consequences."

John Rogers, chief executive of Argos, which was acquired by Sainsbury's last year, said that the issue was resolved quickly once it was uncovered and processes have been updated to ensure that it cannot happen again.

Nationally, retail, hairdressing and hospitality businesses were among the most prolific offenders when it came to not paying staff minimum wage.

TLC Hair and Beauty, of Mile Lane in Bury, has also been named after it failed to pay £533.51 to two workers.

The Bolton News has contacted Nationwide Solution Limited for a comment.
