A PETROL station will be redeveloped to include a ‘drive-thru’ coffee shop after plans were approved.

Bury Council’s planning committee gave the green light for the proposals from Euro Garages to modernise Ramsbottom Service Station, in Stubbins Lane.

New petrol filling station pumps, canopy and convenience store will replace the existing ones, but the new canopy will be smaller than the one there now.

The new convenience store will be located in the same position as the existing one, providing a range of convenience goods plus a new food counter.

It is part of Euro Garages’ nationwide programme of building or redeveloping sites and provide drive-thru coffee shops.

The plans were accepted despite concerns raised by some residents. Paul Yates, from Stubbins Lane, said: “We already suffer from continual traffic noise, loud car radios being played while cars have doors and windows left open while using the existing petrol station.

"Many young drivers meet and congregate on the site in the evenings, revving engines and blasting out car radios and showing off to each other.”

He said police had been contacted in the past and have moved the drivers on.

Euro Garages said the development is designed to reduce opportunities for crime.
