TEENAGERS at Woodhey High School were given the opportunity to work with Blue Watch Ramsbottom as part of their annual challenge day.

Alongside the Army and Bury College, the firefighters from Ramsbottom fire station helped Year 9 students to develop their team building skills during the activity day at the school’s playing fields in Bolton Road West.

Tasks included water pumping, tying knots and lines, and hose running.

Firefighter Adam Xerxen, from the Blue Watch team, said: “It went really well.

“They all seemed to really enjoy it and it was a good way to promote the opportunities of our cadet scheme.

“As well as being good fun it helps build their confidence and build friendships.”

The Community Fire Cadets programme is a two-year education and development scheme aimed at young people aged 14 to 17, who attend Ramsbottom fire station one evening a week.

It is also a chance for young people to gain a nationally recognised Level 2 BTEC qualification in Fire and Rescue Services in the Community.

Crew manager Karl Sorfleet said: “It’s always a really good event and helps us in our cadet recruitment here at Ramsbottom.” For more information visit: www.manchesterfire.gov.uk
