FIREFIGHTERS were called out to tackle a four-car blaze at an industrial unit last night.

Crews from Farnworth and Bolton Central responded to the incident at the Pilot Works in Manchester Road at round 8.55pm.

Upon arrival, firemen found four cars on fire at the rear of the premises.

According to Steve Coote, watch manager at Farnworth, the cars were well alight but the blaze was quickly brought under control.

He said: "The fire had the potential to spread to the industrial units but it was quickly brought under control and there were no injuries.

"There was some fire damage. Two or three of the vehicles were burnt out and there was a lot of black smoke in the area.

"We dealt with the incident and liaised with police officers at the scene."

The cause of the fire has not been determined and the fire service and police are currently investigating the incident.

Two fire engines from Farnworth and one from Bolton Central were at the scene for around two hours.

Police investigators were due to return this morning.
