AWARD-WINNING BBC Radio sports broadcaster Eleanor Oldroyd is to join runners taking part in this year’s Asda Foundation Bury 10K.

Bury-born Ms Oldroyd, aged 55, whose voice is familiar to listeners of Radio 5 Live, is a patron of the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, one of the event’s partner charities.

Ms Oldroyd, who took part in the Run For All-organised Asda Foundation York 10K in 2013, said: “It’s fair to say I’m no Paula Radcliffe but the joy of Run For All events is that runners of all abilities are encouraged to take part, with many of them raising lots of money for some fantastic causes.

“I’m really looking forward to the run and wish all those taking part the very best of luck.”

Also on the start line on Sunday September 17 will be Dawn Nisbet, whose photograph of her celebrating as she crossed the finish line of a parkrun earlier this year went viral.

The Bury 10K is returning after enjoying a successful debut last year.

It is organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All in partnership with I Will If You Will (IWIYW), a fitness movement in Bury that’s helping women, girls and their families to be more active, more often.

IWIYW is delivered by Bury Council with Lottery funding from Sport England.

The run starts and finishes close to The Rock shopping centre and follows a route past Bury Parish Church, the Fusilier Museum, Bury Art Museum, along Manchester Road, Dumers Lane, Bury Road, Radcliffe Road and back towards The Rock.

It forms part of the hugely successful 10K series, supported by the Asda Foundation, which includes events in Burnley, Leeds, York, Lincoln, Nottingham, King’s Lynn, Leicester, Hull and Sheffield.

They are organised by Run For All, part of the legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson, who raised nearly £2m for charity by tackling a string of gruelling challenges despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.

The Bury event is supported by the Asda Foundation, I Will If You Will, Bury Times, Key 103, Up & Running, Arla Protein, Aftershokz and The Rock.

As well as the 10K, the event also includes the Arena Group Bury Family Fun Run, a short distance run for all ages and abilities.
