CALLS have been made for parents to keep an eye on their children after police reports of ‘dangerous’ behaviour on building sites.

A building site in Clitheroe has had problems with children trespassing and throwing concrete breeze blocks at the site.

Soft landing bags, to protect against falls, have also been sliced at the Henthorn Road site.

Officers said this could have potential environmental hazards as polystyrene pieces from the bag could get into nearby streams and cause pollution.

Police have warned building work at the site could be postponed if damage continues.

PCSO Natasha Harris said: “The most worrying thing for me was that these bags have clearly been cut with a knife.

“As for the dangers of climbing on piles of breeze blocks and throwing them from a height, I think the dangers speak for themselves.”

Children were caught on the site by police on Monday night and detectives said they would be speaking to the parents and schools of those involved.

Cllr Allan Knox, who presents the area on the Ribble Valley Council said: “I know children can be mischievous and bored during the summer holidays. But a building site is no place for children."

Officers said they will be increasing security.
