UKIP’s deputy leader addressed a packed audience of party members on a visit to Bolton.

Peter Whittle, who is standing to replace former leader Paul Nuttall, spoke to around 60 people at Farnworth Cricket Club, in Lavender Road.

He spoke for half an hour on his vision for the party and what is needed to ensure it puts up a strong fight at next year’s council elections.

UKIP Cllr Sean Hornby, who represents Little Lever and Darcy Lever, said: “It was an interesting visit, it seems to be a regular thing leaders coming to Bolton.”

He added: “We will be defending our first (Bolton Council) UKIP seat next year and this will be seen as a test for our support.

“However I am confident that our record in the Little Lever and Darcy Lever seat will ensure that Cllr Paul Richardson will be re-elected and also we will gain seats as well.”
