A LANZAROTE bar run by a former Bolton landlord has thanked holidaymakers and ex-pats for their help raising nearly £2,000 for victims of terror attacks in the UK.

The Paradise Bar, in Costa Teguise, run by Ken Longworth, from Halliwell, held a ‘summer fete’ for those affected by the attacks in Manchester and London earlier this year.

More than 500 people, including holidaymakers and ex-pat bar owners hailing from Greater Manchester, enjoyed the event.

Attractions included Morris dancing, tombola, stocks, live music and a children’s paddling pool.

Partygoers donned T-shirts emblazoned with the 'Manchester bee' , and at the end of the event 30 balloons were released to sea while partygoers sang Don’t Look Back in Anger.

The money has been donated to the Red Cross appeals in aid of victims of the tragedies at Manchester Arena and London.

Mr Longworth once ran the Founders Arms in George Street as well as a number of other pubs in the Greater Manchester area. He also lived in Radcliffe.

But the 71-year-old publican, and wife Les emigrated to Costa Teguise 21 years ago after falling in love with the resort.

Mrs Longworth said they were overwhelmed by the support they received from bar owners—many of whom hail from Greater Manchester—and holidaymakers alike.

She added: “It was a very, very good the whole town of Costa Teguise got on board , they're a fantastic set of people , they love it when we start with an event.”
