A NEW Italian eatery has opened its doors in Whitefield.

Mezzaluna is the latest addition to the town’s blossoming food and drink scene, serving sourdough pizzas baked in a wood-burning oven and popular pasta dishes.

Owner Francesco Stefanuto transformed the building, which was formerly home to Porto Conte, to open the modern, warm and welcoming restaurant in Bury New Road.

Mr Stefanuto said: “I opened a pizzeria in Italy many years ago, it was successful but I was invited to move to England to be director of my family’s restaurant.

“I spent more than 20 years in this role before deciding I was ready for my next challenge in what has come to be my hometown, Whitefield.

“Whitefield has become a hive of activity in the last year or two and I wanted to be part of it.

“The other restaurants tend to have higher prices and a more formal environment — we wanted to create an atmosphere that families would feel welcome in and not break the bank.

“When I came across the property for sale with such a large south-facing garden, I knew it was an opportunity I couldn’t miss.”

Mr Stefanuto believes the restaurant’s outdoor garden makes it stand out from other eateries in the area.

He added: “One of my favourite aspects is the garden — it catches the afternoon and evening sun. I’d love people to make the most of it.”

The restaurant employs nine members of staff but is looking to expand the team. To apply, email a CV to mezzalunajobs@hotmail.com
