NEIGHBOURS were shocked to discover their street was missing from the new Westhoughton Town Guide.

The document was delivered to residents recently but its map had missed out several side streets and avenues near Daisy Hill Station, including Mabel Street, Hunt's Bank, Pine Grove and Chestnut Drive — and some residents in Mabel Street were not happy with the omission.

In a letter to The Bolton News, Victoria Powlton-Jones, aged 45, said: "It is with great interest while flicking through the new Westhoughton Town Guide for 2017—2019 my husband and I noticed our street where we live has been completely omitted from the Town map.

"Mabel Street should appear on the map off Leigh Road just before Daisy Hill Train Station does this omission mean we are not liable for council tax?

"Or perhaps this explains the reason for a lack of interest shown by the council for road and pavement repairs and the appalling parking situations we find ourselves in every day with overflow from the train station."

Mrs Powlton-Jones later told The Bolton News she had looked at the guide at least half a dozen times and could not spot Mabel Street anywhere.

She added: "This just comes on top of the back of everything else — the street is an absolute mess, including the pavements.

"We are right next to Daisy Hill Station and we have people here who are double parking in the lane. It is a nightmare getting out."

Roanna Kaleni, also of Mabel Street, described the omission as 'worrying' and said it made her feel 'insignificant'.

She said: "I think obviously the people who have made the map should know there is a Mabel Street.

"This is actually quite a main street because a lot of people park on here for the train station. We can't even park our car because it is so busy."

Cllr Ryan Battersby, deputy leader of Westhoughton Town Council, said: "It is just meant to be a representative example of where the places of interest are. If we were to put every street in it would be far too small to make out all the streets.

"It is meant to be a representation rather than a detailed map."

The guide has been delivered to all addresses in Westhoughton.

It will soon be freely available for people to collect from locations including the town hall.
