BUSINESSES and homeowners are being warned after a spate of attempted break-ins.

A number of properties are reported to have been targeted by burglars in Breightmet, with one resident and one businessman issuing a warning to stop other people being hit.

CCTV shows two men at e-cigarette shop Fresh Mist, Bury Road, using a car jack to try and gain access to the shop.

The two men are seen wearing jackets with hoods up, with one stood up as the other works at the door.

Fortunately nothing was taken and access was not gained to the premises but owner Dean Holmes said that around £1,000 worth of damage was caused to the property with the shutters needing to be repaired.

The break-in took place in the early hours of Tuesday, May 9 and Dale Peters' house, in nearby Blenheim Road, was also hit in a similar incident that same night.

Burglars used a car jack to try and get in to his garage but failed to do so and nothing was taken.

Mr Holmes said: "The damage was about £1,000. It's a pain. This is the first thing I've experienced like this in all my shops.

"The system is on the police response system if they had got in there would have been a police alert."

Mr Peters, aged 30, awoke on the Tuesday morning and noticed that his garage door had been propped up.

He said: "I thought someone had got in so my heart sank. They didn't get in but my Mrs is really upset.

"I saw the CCTV of Fresh Mist and they were using a car jack to get the shutters up and it looked similar to what had happened to us."

Fresh Mist posted the footage and images of the burglars on Facebook and other people commented saying that they had also been hit by burglars around that time.

Police confirmed that they are investigating the incidents.

A spokesman said: "We received report of an attempted burglary that happened at 2.20am on Tuesday 9 May 2017 at a building on Bury Road. Police enquiries ongoing and no arrests have been made."

They also confirmed that an attempted burglary was reported overnight at a property in Blenheim Street on May 9 and enquiries are also continuing in to this with no arrests made.

Anyone with information on the burglary at Fresh Mist should contact police on 101 and quote incident number 574 if May 9.
