THERE is an air of egg-citement in a primary school, which has become home to a family of blue tits.
The Bolton News reported last week how children at St Brendan’s RC in Harwood were flocking to the school hall to watch a nesting blue tit, through a live feed from a bird box in the school grounds. And to their delight all seven eggs have hatched.
They started hatching as children and staff left for the weekend. All had broken through their shells to ‘greet’ children as they arrived to school on Monday.
School administrator, Alison Proctor said: “The first one hatched on Friday afternoon
“The children and staff are so excited.”
Eric Hunt, the school site manager created a Springwatch style live feed, to give children a bird’s-eye view of the new family.
Mrs Proctor said: “The blue tits are being kept very busy, taking it turns to bring food.
“When children are having their lunch, the fledglings are having their lunch, so we call it feeding time at St Brendan’s RC Primary School. The children just love it.”
The schools says that this live-feed gives children an opportunity to learn about and understand nature.
