WE will be joining local newspapers across the UK by holding an interactive Trusted News Day this week.

The Bolton News will be inviting readers to quiz editors and journalists on how trusted local journalism is produced as part of the industry’s new campaign against fake news.

#TrustedNewsDay on Friday, May 12 will feature a question and answer session on our Facebook page facebook.com/theboltonnews from 11am.

Journalists on our newsdesk will be on hand to answer readers’ questions on all aspects of how our newspaper and online digital platforms operate.

It will be your chance to quiz our editorial team about how we take decisions about stories both in our newspaper and on our website.

We will also be asking your views on how you want us to report the general election. Do you think it’s important to stick purely local issues or do you like a broad overview of national policies?

Readers are encouraged to participate during this special event, which forms part of the nationwide Fighting Fake News campaign, aimed at raising awareness of fake news content and the importance of trusted, long-established news sources like The Bolton News.

Organised by Local Media Works, the local marketing arm of the News Media Association, Fighting Fake News has seen hundreds of local papers highlight their highly-trusted credentials through features, news stories, infographics and videos.

The campaign, which launched a week ago and will continue to run up to and through Local Newspaper Week (15-21 May) has prompted Prime Minister Theresa May to comment on the dangers of fake news on social media and the importance of a free press.

LNW will see the public invited to vote for their favourite local newspaper campaign from a showcase of 28 powerful Making a Difference campaigns with the winner will be announced at the Society of Editors Regional Press Awards on 19 May.

They will be talking about their jobs and why delivering honest journalism is the reason they entered the profession.
