RENFREWSHIRE Council is under fire for failing to carry out re-cladding at owner-occupied flats in Kilbarchan and Lochwinnoch.
Independent councillor Andy Doig, said owner-occupiers in the Gallowhill area of Paisley have had their buildings renovated but those living in the villages have been “left behind”.
He added: “I have been contacted by constituents in Kilbarchan and Lochwinnoch who live in blocks of flats which are 100 per cent owner-occupied and have been refused cladding improvements.
“We all pay the same council tax, so it is scandalous that homeowners in Gallowhill are being treated differently.
“I understand that the SNP government is to put another £30 million into the scheme, yet things seem to have ground to a halt for homeowners. I call on both Renfrewshire Council and the Scottish Government to get their act together.
Councillor Tommy Williams, Renfrewshire’s housing convener, has pledged that, if further funding becomes available, the council will aim to deliver improvements at more wholly owner-occupied flats.
He added: “The works in Gallowhill were completed in line with the available grant funding for eligible properties.
“The council has sought to prioritise blocks in which there are council tenants but, if further tranches of funding become available, we will look to deliver improvements on blocks that are wholly owner-occupied.”
A Scottish Government spokesperson added: “The overall increase in spending power to support local authority services now amounts to over £383million, with Renfrewshire Council’s overall increase in spending power amounting to almost £8.8million.”
