THE Liberal Democrats have announced their candidates for the two Bury seats ahead of the June election.

Former Bury councillor Richard Baum has been chosen as the candidate for Bury North, this will be the second time he has contested the seat in two years.

He is a magistrate and NHS worker.

In 2015 Mr Baum received 932 votes, coming fifth, behind the Conservatives, Labour, UKIP and the Green Party.

Tory MP David Nuttall currently currently holds the seat with less than a 400 vote majority, he is looking to be selected again as the Conservative candidate.

In the Labour Bury South seat, the Lib Dem candidate will be Andrew Page, a north west photographer, who worked within the NHS for 16 years.

Mr Page has not stood for election before.

In 2015, Paul Ankers contested the seat for the Lib dems, coming fourth with 1,690 votes.

Ivan Lewis is the incumbent, he had a 4,922 vote lead in 2015 ahead of Tory candidate Daniel Critchlow.

The snap general election was announced by Prime Minister Theresa May on April 18.

The electorate goes to the polls on June 8.

Both Karen Danczuk and James Frith announced their intentions to stand for the marginal Bury North seat.

Neither of them has been formally selected by the Labour party yet.
