TRAINS users are being warned to expect significant delays and disruption today.

Members of the RMT union who work on Northern Rail are taking part in a 24 hour strike until midnight.

The majority of services will only run between 7am and 7pm and will be dramatically reduced.

Northern has warned that all services are expected to be extremely busy as the action takes place on the Friday before the bank holiday weekend.

Across the area, roads are expected to be busier than usual, especially at peak times, as people make alternative arrangements because of the strike.

RMT members are striking because of concerns over plans to not have guards on some services.

The first train from Bolton to Blackburn will not run until 8.58am and there will be one service an hour, with the last train leaving at 3.58pm.

The first train to Manchester Victoria will not leave Bolton until 10.11am, with one service an hour until 5.11pm.
