NO-ONE can say there isn’t anything to do this bank holiday in Bury.

Across the borough there is a range of events and activities for children and adults alike.

On Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the East Lancashire Railway is holding ‘Meet Thomas the Tank Engine’ events.

Youngsters can ride on Thomas and meet his friends, who will be waiting the heritage railway based at Bury Bolton Street Station.

There will also be performances by Rusty and Dusty, Sodor's cheeky station sweepers, and unlimited travel on steam and diesel trains.

Circus workshops, magic shows, face painting, and Thomas-themed activities including the ‘imagination station’, table top games and Thomas films will keep the most restless of engine enthusiasts occupied.

The Fat Controller's Opening Ceremony will take place at 9.45am each day.

Activities will finish at 4pm and the Fat Controller will close the event at 3.45pm.

Bury Times: Greenmount Cricket Club are joining the Greater Manchester League

The seventh annual Greenmount Village Party also promises to be a great afternoon out on bank holiday Monday.

The event, which this year coincides with the 150th anniversaries of the village’s cricket club and church, will run from 1.30pm to 4.30pm across the village, but the main activities will be at Greenmount Cricket Club.

Bury Times: Success for annual beer festival

If you fancy a pint while listening to great music, get yourself down to The Major in Ramsbottom.

The pub in Bolton Street is running a beer festival for three days from tonight (Friday) to Sunday.

As well showcasing some of the best ales from across Bury and Lancashire, the festival is a chance to listen to live performances from bands such as Retrospect and the Secret Lemonade Factory.

Bury Times: Nuttall Park

In Ramsbottom, an afternoon of fun in the park is planned for children on bank holiday Monday.

Volunteer group Friends of Nuttall Park has organised the ‘Little People’s Event’ at the park in the town.

Entry is only £1 and there will be a wide range of activities on offer, such as willow crafting, tunnelling, flower planting and paper leaf decorating.

Bury Times: Fusilier Museum gets £815,000 lottery grant

There are no special bank holiday events on, but why not pop down to The Fusilier Museum, which has exhibitions commemorating over 300 years of the history of the Lancashire Fusiliers regiment.

The museum in Moss Street, in Bury town centre, is also ideally located to discover more about the exciting places to visit in Bury.

Only a few minutes’ walk to the East Lancashire Railway, The Met Theatre, The Transport Museum, Bury Art Museum, the Parish Church and our world famous Bury Market.
