WE continue our look back at the different areas of Bolton with a focus on Egerton.

While this semi-rural location hasn’t undergone the same rapid transformations seen elsewhere in the borough, these pictures still illustrate a bygone era.

Mostly dating from the the 1970s, many of our readers should be able to recognise the village as depicted in this collection of photographs.

There are a couple of interesting examples on an equestrian theme.

One shows Steptoe the horse, who was a well-known sight in Egerton during the 1970s.

The 14-year-old animal belonged to Doreen Pullen and husband, Joe, who lived at The Barn, Turton Tower. The couple could often be seen driving around the area with their beloved beast.

Elsewhere, we see a picture of Racehorses returning along Longworth Road, Egerton, in 1943 after cantering exercises. Strings of racehorses were frequently seen in the area; the open land of the surrounding area making a perfect training ground for the impressive animals.

Another picture shows the creation of the Bedford Street shopping precinct. The shops were removed to make way fro houses over 20 years later. What are your Egerton memories? Email gayle.mcbain@nqnw.co.uk
