VOLUNTEERS have been thanked for helping to clear drainage channels at a historic beauty spot in Darwen.

The Friends of Bold Venture Park group has started clean-up days to try and keep the area looking attractive for visitors.

The last event saw around a dozen people turn up including members of the Darwen Gala committee.

A spokesman said: “Thank you to the dozen or so people that came and helped us dig up and clear more drainage channels.

“It was most rewarding to find drain gates that have been covered over for some time.

“We had help from the Darwen Gala committee and a family with young children who collected rubbish.

“The weather was thankfully somewhat improved from the event in March.”

The park is based in Belgrave Road and opened in 1889.

At the event last month the gates and gullies were cleaned.

Blackburn with Darwen Council is also due to remove a fallen tree which came down near the Manor Road entrance last week.

A nature walk has been organised for Sunday, May 14, at 10am.

The friends group is also welcoming new volunteers and meets on the first Monday of every month at the Scout Hut in Manor Road.

The next meeting will be on Monday, May 8, at 7.30pm.
