PHOTOGRAPHERS have captured a hidden world underneath Bolton during a recent nature trail.

Chris Banks and Simon Gilkes, from the Bolton North East Wildlife Trail (NEWT), took part in a walk exploring the River Croal and snapped pictures along the way.

The pictures, submitted to the Bolton News Camera Club, were taken under the bridge in Marsden Road and Mr Banks, who took these pictures, believes the wooden structure is at least 100 years old, although he's not sure what it could have been.

Mr Banks, of Breightmet, said: "We just wanted to see the site up the River Croal and we wanted to see what it would be like underground in Bolton.

"There is a lot of old Bolton buried underground so we have been spending our time seeing if we can get to the old Victorian Bolton but we're not able to access a lot of it.

"We have all this history and we just want to share it. Bolton is such an interesting place."

The pair accessed the area via an alleyway behind McDonald's and walked along the River Croal.

It was part of the trail travelling from Churchgate, underneath Argos and the Market Place Shopping Centre before finishing at White Lion Brow.
