A Blackpool couple will celebrate a perfect nine months together by watching themselves on TV tonight with their two-day old daughter.

For Sarah and Phil Stoddard, their appearance on new BBC show The Big Day caps an incredible period in their lives.

The couple, with a wedding budget of only £4,500, put their faith in close friends and family, who took on the responsibility of organising the wedding day, in front of the BBC cameras, and with help from a team of experts led by presenter Nick Knowles.

And new arrival Emma Louise is even named after one of Sarah's bridesmaids, who organised the wedding night hotel where the couple believe the baby was conceived.

New dad Phil, 31, who works with Sarah, 27, at the Castle Casino, said: "It's been an amazing few months, the show seems almost irrelevant now after what has happened. It's our first child together, we'll have to see if anymore come along. She was born by caesarean, weighing just six pounds, and after the pain Sarah went through she might not want another too soon."

The big day had several quirks organised by family and friends, including a horse-drawn carriage to the church for Sarah, and an evening meal at Poulton Community Centre of fish and chips, followed by a night at the De Vere Hotel.

"It's a great feeling to see friends and family pull together like that," said Phil. "It makes you proud how much effort they put in for you. People still come up to me now and say what a great day it was, and how they remember it."

Phil is now looking forward to getting Sarah and Emma Louise back to the family home on Peel Avenue, Layton.

The Reverend Martin Keighley, who conducted the service at St Chad's Church, Poulton, said: "It was a very special day, and went really well.

"The service was the one thing we asked the couple to keep control of and plan. They seemed very well suited, and I think they had a few shocks throughout the day."

Nick Knowles, one of the experts on The Big Day, said: "People are going to think we planned this - the wedding is filmed for BBC One, the couple then conceive on the wedding night, and give birth just two days before the programme airs!"

The show is on BBC One at 8pm tonight.
