DRIVERS using high-powered cars have been accused of going through a red light in Bolton.

A procession of supercars was caught on camera apparently cutting up traffic at the junction of Topp Way and Bridge Street, near the town centre.

The same day a driver of a white 'supercar' was issued with an antisocial behaviour order after being stopped by police in Spa Road.

A motorist who filmed the procession of cars at the busy junction on Thursday using a dashcam, claimed the people behind the wheel had been trying to barge their way through.

The man, who asked not to be named, said: “The drivers of the supercars and luxury cars took it upon themselves to ignore the rules of the road and decided to go through the red lights and push their way through.

“My light was on green yet they decided to give me abuse as they wanted to do as they pleased.

“All were attempting to get in front of one another and treating the roads as a racetrack.

“They all proceeded up towards Blackburn Road at high speed.”

Police confirmed they had received reports reports of high powered vehicles in Halliwell and that they had issued a number of anti-social driving notices.

Once issued with an antisocial behaviour order, if the driver is caught causing trouble by police in the next 12 months in the vehicle, or any other vehicle, then it will be seized.

The same goes if another driver is behind the wheel of the car.

Cllr Susan Haworth has previously spoken out about problem supercars and believes more needs to be done to regulate their use.

She said: “If you are renting out an expensive product like a supercar it seems so risky to put it in the hands of people who might not know what they are doing. “Some drivers may think they can handle the increased speed and power but can’t.

“People who want to go on roads and play games by speeding and causing trouble are laughing in the face of the law.”
