THIS gallery of former museum exhibitions should bring back some memories for older readers.

Among images is the famous T-Rex skull cast. It was on display at the American Museum of Natural History in New York.

Bolton’s Director of Museums, Vincent Smith, persuaded the Americans to let Bolton Museum have a fibreglass cast of the 70 million-year-old creature, which was dug up in Montana back in 1908.

Another picture shows a famous museum inhabitant – Tiddles

After 15 years in the same cage, Bolton Museum staff thought it was time to air off the leopard in 1970. The beast caused a stir in the town centre, until passers-by realised Tiddles was stuffed.

Another piece of animal magic occurred in 1968, when the newest arrival to Bolton Museum was a tiny fruit bat

The timid creature tried to hide in an attendant’s inside pocket while posing for our camera.

Another curious addition to the museum arrived in 1972.

The Magneto Electric Machine was an electric shock device used at the turn of the 20th century to ‘cure’ everything from nervous diseases toothache.
