WORD of our 150th anniversary has spread far and wide.

Pictured here is ex-pat Boltonian, Noel Butterworth, with eight-year-old daughter, Liah, reading our special edition amid salubrious surroundings.

Mr Butterworth messaged us from his native Switzerland, where he received two copies of the 48-page publication courtesy of his parents back in Blighty.

Our special report of the newspaper’s founders, the Tillotson family, held particular interest for him.

He said: “Here we are sat in Morges, Switzerland by the side of Lake Geneva with the Swiss and French Alps in the background.

“I’d like to take the time to congratulate the Bolton News - or Bolton Evening News as I grew up with - on 150 years.

“I’m enjoying reading the special edition. The article on the history including the Tillotsons has special resonance as my mother, grandmother on my mother’s side and grandfather on my father’s side all worked at Tillotsons and, prior reading the article, I wasn’t aware of the significance.

“Also - a friend of mine is the daughter of former editor, Les Gent. It’s a small world.”

Our 150th anniversary special edition is packed with fascinating articles, including rare letters from the likes of Robert Louis Stevenson and Thomas Hardy, dating to when the paper printed fiction by up-and-coming authors.

Wanderers nostalgia, archive photographs and a centre-page poster reprint of our first ever front page are also included.

It's available in newsagents and The Bolton News offices.

We’re challenging readers to picture themselves reading our 150th edition in unusual or far-flung locations. Send your pictures to matthew.taylor@nqnw.co.uk
