THE North West Air Ambulance (NWAA) charity is to open its biggest shop in East Lancashire.

The organisation will sell new and used furniture, household items, bric-a-brac, books and clothing at the new 4,000sqft store in Blackburn.

The store in Preston Old Road, Cherry Tree, is the ninth in the North West and the charity already has a shop in Royal Blackburn Hospital.

NWAA bosses said it will build on the success of already-established stores in the region, with plans to offer additional space for community groups to meet and learn new skills.

Ahead of the launch on Saturday, April 22, the charity is calling for donations of quality used goods.

They can be dropped at stores, at a donation station or by arranging a free collection from home.

The team is also appealing for people to help out in the new shop.

Volunteers will help sort donations, work on the till, and create window displays.

Pat Tisdale, head of retail, said the store has a large parking area which will hopefully remove the hassle of donating.

She said: “We cannot wait to open our doors to this brand new store and hope that our supporters will help to get the outlet off to a flying start.

“We believe that the quality of items on offer, community atmosphere and ample parking will make the store a great staple for our supporters in Lancashire.

“Last year alone our crew flew more than 2,000 urgent missions to patients across the North West and, as we rely on donations to stay operational, our retail stores provide a great source of income."

The new store, which will open at 10am on April 22, is at 395 Preston Old Road, Cherry Tree next to the Sainsbury’s store.
