A MEMORIAL is to be set up in the grounds of a school in memory of teenager Megan Lee who died on New Year’s Day after eating a takeaway meal.

The student, who attended St Christopher’s CE High School in Accrington, will be remembered at a ceremony on Tuesday while a plot of land has been chosen for a bench and willow sculpture.

The 15-year-old from Oswaldtwistle suffered a severe allergic reaction and died two days after eating at a restaurant in the town.

Headteacher Richard Jones said her death ‘shook the whole school community particularly the many young people who considered Megan to be a friend’.

A non-uniform day will also be held to raise money for the Anaphylaxis Campaign and Critical Care Unit at Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Mr Jones said: “It is a tribute to this church school that we have been able to support each other during these testing times, trying to make sense of a seemingly senseless and tragic series of events by listening to and acting on the word of God.

“We feel that sufficient time has now passed for us to mark Megan’s time with us more formally.”

The service will involve year 11s, friends from other year groups and Megan’s parents.

The whole school non-uniform day will be held on Wednesday with youngsters urged to wear an item in pink which was Megan’s favourite colour.

Mr Jones said he hoped the school would be able to raise £1,000 which would be split between the two charities.

The school is asking each pupil to donate £1. People can also contribute directly via www.justgiving.com/St-ChristophersCEHighSchool.
