A MINUTE'S silence was held at the Westhoughton and Chew Moor Area Forum paying tribute to the victims of the terrorist attack in London.

Councillors and residents were among the people present at the meeting in the John Holt Youth Centre and all bowed their heads as they remembered those who were killed or injured in Westminster.

Forum chairman Cllr Anna-Marie Watters, Westhoughton South representative on Bolton Council, said: "It is not part of the agenda but in the light of the horrific events in London at Westminster I would like to hold a minutes silence in respect of those people who lost their lives and their friends and family."

Chris Green, Bolton West MP, was in attendance at the meeting having recently returned from London after he was under lockdown in Parliament during the attack.

Four people have been pronounced dead, including police officer Keith Palmer, and around 40 others were injured by British-born Khalid Masood.

He drove his car onto Westminster Bridge before mounting the kerb and mowing down pedestrians.

The car then crashed into the railings outside Parliament and the attacker jumped out and attacked PC Palmer with a knife.

He was then shot by what has now been revealed to be an armed bodyguard of Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon.

He later died from his wounds after paramedics attended to him and PC Palmer.
