A SPORT-loving teenager who learned to walk again after undergoing treatment for a tumour on her spine will be making a splash in the first-ever Celebrity Superhero Tri.

Fifteen-year-old Brooke Taylor will be teaming up with comedian Adam Hill, known for using his artificial foot in his stand-up routines, and Ben Warne.

The sporting event is the debut of Superhero, the only series dedicated to the UK’s 12 million people with disabilities.

Each participant will attempt a different sport, with Brooke taking to the open water for a 150-metre swim, Ben from Oxfordshire doing the 3k bike and Adam the 1k run.

The Ladybridge High School pupil will be juggling her training with her GCSE revision.

Brooke, who lives in Lostock, was born with a tumour on her spine which has left her with nerve damage to internal organs and down her legs.

Treatment meant she was not able to take part in sport.

She said: “In 2015 I watched an event at Dorney Lake but was unable to take part as I was recovering from spinal fusion surgery.

“I was totally inspired, but found it tough watching as I desperately wanted to be one of the athletes.

“After two long years of being denied sport I was given the go-ahead to get active again in July, 2016.

“I’ve had to relearn to walk but this hasn’t stopped me.

“Being part of a Celebrity Superhero team is the icing on the cake for me getting back into sport.

“To be able to go back and tell my surgeon how far I’ve come would be a really big thing for me. I like to defy the odds and I never give up.

“My motto is, ‘If you have the ability to do it, then do it!’”

The keen cyclist will take part in the sporting event at Dorney Lake, the home of the 2012 Paralympic and Olympic rowing events.

Brooke still suffers complications but everything is ‘settled’ at the moment.

She said: “My parents are proud that I am taking part in this and my friends are always asking for updates.

“I am looking forward to taking on my first-ever open water swim, but I have never done it before so it is another challenge for me.

“I’m over the moon and feel very privileged.

"August can’t come quickly enough.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting the team.”

Her next sporting challenge is to see how far she can go with her cycling, with the Olympics in her sights.

Superhero Series founder Sophia Warner said: “I am thrilled that Brooke is joining forces with Team Adam.”
