RESIDENTS are being urged to give blood, after an MP discovered that only one per cent of his constituents are registered donors.
Chris Green is asking members of the public to become lifesavers after being shocked when he saw the figures.
As part of the campaign, the Bolton West representative donated blood at one of the regular blood drives at Horwich RMI.
Speaking after giving blood, the Conservative MP said: “There are just 928 blood donors in Bolton West and Atherton – about one per cent of the constituency.
“I decided to make a donation to show local residents just how easy it is to become a blood donor and just how much you can make a difference.
“One donation alone could save the lives of up to three people.
“I would urge anyone who is eligible to give blood to find their next session.”
You can register to give blood online at blood.co.uk, by contacting 0300 123 23 23, or by downloading the NHSGiveBlood app.
