A SERIAL fly-tipper has been ordered to clean up dumped rubbish from around the borough.

Thomas Shannon pleaded guilty to fly-tipping between 20 and 25 black bags in Horwich in December, 2016.

Bolton Council has secured a community service order against Shannon, who dumped the rubbish at the Captain Street car park.

As this was his second fly-tipping offence, he was given a community order for 12 months and must carry out 60 hours unpaid work with community payback teams across Bolton. Shannon of Lee Lane, Horwich, was also ordered to pay costs of £400 and £85 victim surcharge.

The council also took four other residents to court for dumping back street waste, as part of its continued crackdown on anti-social and inconsiderate fly-tipping.

Matthew Nathan Williams of Sutcliffe Street, Bolton, was fined £80, costs of £110 and a £30 victim surcharge. Daniel Luke McKay of Hawthorne Street, Bolton, was fined £40, £40 costs and a £30 victim surcharge. Kyle McClements of Boston Street, Bolton, was fined £40, costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30. All three attended court and pleaded guilty to dumping back street waste.

Szilvia Kolompar of Oxford Grove, Bolton, did not attend but was found guilty in his absence of dumping back street waste and was fined £220, £230 costs, plus a £30 victim surcharge.

Bolton Council’s executive cabinet member for environmental services, Cllr Nick Peel, said: “Bolton residents should be in no doubt that the council will always aim to prosecute those guilty of enviro-crimes like fly-tipping. We are pleased that the court has issued not only a fine but also a community service order. There is never an excuse for this sort of behaviour, and the fact that this is a repeat offence of fly-tipping by Shannon has been reflected in the sentence. Anti-social people who fly-tip show a complete disregard for the people of Bolton. I would encourage all residents to report fly-tips into the council and any other information that will help us identify the culprits.”
